480p
This is a standard definition picture drawn from 480 lines but it is progressive,
meaning it is drawn faster than the 480i but it is still not considered high
definition.
720p
This is a high definition standard in which the entire picture is made from 720
lines. The 'p' stands for progressive which means the entire frame is drawn at
once. (Two frames in 720p are drawn in the same amount of time as one frame is
drawn in 1080i, thus 720p is much faster.)

Image Retention
Image retention refers to what in the past has
been called phosphor burn. This occurs when a fixed imaged remains in one spot
on the screen for an extended period of time and the ghost of that image remains
all the time thereafter.
